The Village of Wellington is located in the western-most part of The Palm Beaches, sharing a southwestern boundary with the Florida Everglades. In 1951, Charles Oliver Wellington, an accountant and investor from New York, purchased several tracts of land located just northeast of the Florida Everglades. Thanks to state-mandated drainage and flood control initiatives, the formerly waterlogged area was soon transformed into fertile farmland. Many crops – including the world’s largest strawberry patch – were grown in the area that would eventually become Wellington.
Wellington is world-famous for Equestrian and Polo events. In addition, it is one of the top Polo destinations in the world attracting the world’s most accomplished Polo players.The Village of Wellington is home to the International Polo Club Palm Beach and the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
